Spring 2001

Volume 3 No. 1

Are you looking toward Spring as much a I am? I want color! No more white! If you are looking forward to the warm weather and sitting back for a long awaited break---consider spending the first weekend in May at our annual Spring Stitching Getaway in Cape May, New Jersey. Dates for the weekend are May 4,5,and 6. This weekend is co-sponsored by two of the greatest shops in New Jersey, The Cranberry Cupboard of Westmont and Stitch By Stitch of Cape May.

Sharon and I have scheduled a very exciting weekend for you! We will begin on Friday night with a welcoming reception and a quick Make-It-Take-It class. Saturday will begin with breakfast at 9:00 am. Class following with the two great designers of BrightNeedle, Liz Knudsen and Ann Petit. We will break for a catered lunch and then continue the class in the afternoon. Dinner for Saturday night is always a fun filled event and a very relaxed time getting to know the designers as they will be dining with us. Dinner is treated as a “Dutch-treat” event. Sunday, again, starts off with breakfast being served and another Make-It-Take-It class. We have scheduled to wind down around noon giving you free time to walk in the sand or complete your shopping in the quaint shops in town.

While at Nashville Market this year, Sharon and I took a class with Susan Greening Davis. This lovely Whitework Needleroll is to be Friday night’s project. It’s very pretty and can be finished in one evening.

Liz’s description of the project for Saturday is as follows:”The design is for a Sudberry House Shaker Oval Pincushion Box and will feature A Victorian house and garden, ocean waves, a stylized young woman carrying a basket of sea roses and the words,’A place for thy pins’.”

They have a second design that you can stitch when you return home. This project can be placed into the top of a Sudberry House ’Simply Square’ Box or you could have it framed. The square design will feature the same pictorial motifs as the pincushion with additional motifs that will be provided to make your design more personalized. We will be stitching on Barn Owl linen by Birds of a Feather with Needlepoint Silk, Kreinik Silk Mori and Soie d’Alger.

Sunday’s class is also from Nashville Market designed by The Trilogy. The designers of Bent Creek, Heart In Hand Needlearts and Twisted Thread have created an adorable design that will be a great addition to your stitching accomplishments.

Classes will be held at the Cape May Kiwanis building at 1041 Beach Drive. We suggest that you call The Periwinkle ( 609-884-9200 ), The Atlas Inn ( 609-884-7000 ) or the Buckingham ( 609-884-4073 ) hotels for accommodations. Stitchers who have attended previous weekends have given us very good reviews of these hotels.

Cost for the weekend is $150.00. Please call: The Cranberry Cupboard at 856-854-8114 or Stitch By Stitch at 609-898-9606 to register. A 50% deposit is required. Classes are limited, so please call soon.

Paula’s Picks for Spring Stitching

Indigo Rose has 3 new designs. Acorns is stitched on light sand Belfast linen and uses Caron Waterlilies in beautiful earth tones. Carnations & Emeralds is a companion piece to Roses and Pearls and White Orchids and Diamonds. Catherine also had a black work piece titled Betsy that looked very interesting.

The Cricket Collection has just released 4 designs. Spring Patches is done on Buttermilk Jobelan or Hush- A-Bye Yellow. Lacy Eggs are stitched on beautiful spring blues. Spring Chickens is stitched on Kingery Teal or Delicate Teal Jobelan. The Voyage Home is a nautical design stitched on Morning Fog or Blue Ridge linen. All are bright and colorful. A breath of Spring is in the air!

Heart In Hand Needlearts has a new monthly series this year. It’s theme is the alphabet. I am stitching it on an oatmeal color afghan. ( Christmas present for a grandchild?). They are being shipped at a rate of two a month so it doesn’t seem to be getting ahead of me. As of this writing, we have A through I Monthly Manias in stock. Cecilia has two wee charts: Wee Sister and Wee Brother. I’m glad she included brothers because it is very hard to find a design thing for males that is not too “unmasculine”. Her full size chart is titled, Garden Party and it is very cute. Also 3 kits were released this season, Collector’s Heart, Friends Forever and Star Spangled Sampler. We have had to a great response to each of these designs but I think the most popular is Star Spangled Sampler. Call us or stop in soon to get your favorite one. They are hot items! Please visit : www.heartinhand.com to see all of Cecilia’s designs.

Lizzie Kate has also been very busy. The O’Hare couple, Clare and Henry, have an addition to their family. Her name is Pansy O’Hare. Can you vision: hyacinth hand dyed linen, embellishments ( watering can, tiny basket, heart locket charm and silk hair bow with flower button) and stitched with Sampler Threads. Doesn’t she sound like a cutie? Linda has also released 3 Snippits. Birthday Blessings is a quick design to celebrate the special day for your special person. How about that graduation you will be attending this year, Bless The Graduate can be personalized with name and date of the graduate. It will work up quickly. Land That I Love is a great patriotic design embellished with a special charm from Lizzie Kate. Perfect design to celebrate our country’s birthday this year. The most popular of this designer’s releases this season is Spring Has Sprung. Cute bunny stitched in Spring colors from Weeks Dye Works and Gentle Art Sampler Threads on Antique Blue fabric. And don’t forget the carrot button. Yeah, Spring!!! Visit their website: www.lizziekate.com.

Speaking of Weeks Dye Works and Gentle Art Sampler Threads, they have each released new thread colors. “WDW’ has colors called: tiger’s eye, rum raisin, kudzu crimson, Chesapeake, teal frost and buttercup. “GAST’ has named their new shades: Grecian gold, sugarplum and fudge ripple. These colors are gorgeous but the names are making me hungry. Stop in and see for yourself. We are continually adding these to our inventory due to their popularity.

Needle Necessities has added new colors to their overdyed floss line. They have just arrived and we have just placed an order for more of them. They are just great colors!

One of the reasons that we are going crazy with the overdyed threads is to be blamed on Hinziet Designs. We have just gone over the edge with these new finds. The designs adapt themselves to using an overdyed floss and a complementary fabric. The designs can be completed in about 4 hours of stitching. Let me explain…the design depicts a word broken into block formations. Welcome puts the W on the top part of the first block with a pretty silver charm below it. The next letter is on the lower half of the next section with another charm above it. It continues the upper and lower letter/charm working until the word is complete. The designer has suggested colors for stitching but we have been making up our own color pallet and having a ball!! No one can resist the temptation. You have to see them to really appreciate how quick and striking they are. In addition to Welcome, we have Snowman, Valentine, Irish, Easter and Mother in stock and are waiting for Father to arrive any day. Stop in and see the models that we have stitched for you.

Bent Creek has completed their house series with Summer House. This series is just the cutest! I picture them sitting on bookshelves or maybe just the little accessory on a lamp table. They are small, cute and quick to complete. Sounds like winners to me. They will be starting a new Zipper series with the first release being a sweet little bluebird and daisy. Very cute and whimsical. They also have a new item called Holiday Crackers. They are designs to celebrate holidays of the year. We have Easter and Patriotic in stock. Very, very nice! Also just arriving is Animal Arches. Designed in the “arches” format depicting whimsical animals . Also, just in is Buzzzz. This little chart works up to be one great little design! Visit their website: www.bentcreek.com.

Just Nan has also been busy. Ten new charts have been released since January 15th. Miss Kitty’s Dragons is a delightful garden sampler. Be My Valentine is a very pretty bellpull worked on a lovely shade of blue. Petticoat Heart shows a lacy petticoat border framing roses in a heart-shaped design. Winter Blues is done in shades of blue silk with a special winter verse and charm. Butterflies,Blossoms and Bees is the title of her new Class Project featuring the 3B’s. Calico Kate is the latest of the SheNANigan designs. A definite must do! She is so cute, you can almost her purr. Where’s The Cat features a double-sided design and the new double-sided CatBead. M is for Mouse is a Charm School Design and is the first of the Little Letter Series. Kari’s Snowflake is a small design that can be done in one of three color pallets. Last but not least, Barnabee’s Quest was released. Last year, we saw Lady Scarlet and her journey and this year it’s Barnabee’s turn. It can be finished as a bellull or framed if you prefer. Please visit Barnabee and Lady Scarlet and all the other great designs at:wwwjustnan.com.

Drawn Thread has just released 3 long-awaited designs. We have just received these and they are beautiful and very popular. Sanctuary is just gorgeous!! Worked with silk threads on Glenshee linen. Very, very pretty. Sampler Game Board is stitched on Dublin linen with DMC floss. The new kit is titled The Acorn and includes the Belfast linen, Needlepoint Silk Thread, Mill Hill Beads and the Acorn charm. Everything is included, just ready to start stitching. You can see these and more of their wonderful designs at:wwwdrawnthread.com.

We have so many new designs for you. Too many to mention everyone of them. Please stop in for a visit and check them out for yourself. We have also looked for new fabrics, threads and accessories to entice you and thrill you. I think we were pretty successful. Also, everyone seems to be stitching needlerolls. What do you do with them after they are stitched? You could put a group of them in a basket. ( A very nice display ). You could use them as ornaments. ( A good idea ) Or, you could display them as a single work on the new needleroll stands. We have ordered them and are waiting for delivery any day.
